Blasphemy!

I endeavored thusly, I endeavored hence;
I endeavored with mine perferated rod in hand

So sayeth the book of Paul Revere. Amen.

I imagine he drinks appletinis whilst shouting "Eat my big hairy hoop, felchface " to any passersby.
Just a hunch.

Oh just how non-sequial and arbitrary you are! How fucking British, just so high-brow and intellectual it could be produced by a random fucking number generator.

Here now, for your reading pleasure, a little bit of British humour off the top of my head. It's that easy.

[Man picks up the telephone]
Woman: Hello this is courtesy call from Acme cosmetics, is your missus about?
Man: No, you see I'm frightfully sorry. Me wife's a march hair.
Woman: Beg your pardon sir, a march hair?
Man: A march hair.
Woman: Oh well this is a delicate situation. I take it she's not well?
Man: On the contrary my dear, quite content to say the least. At the moment she's in the garden, having a go at the turnips.
Woman: Well, I must that all sounds simply dreadful!
Man: Eh, not so much I'd say. She should be in before tea.
Woman: Before tea you say?
Man: Before tea.
Woman: Oh well I see... Perhaps I could ring later today?
Man: Doubtful me love, somewhat doubtful. I'll be taking her round the vet this afternoon.
Woman: ...Will you be long then?
Man: A spot more than the old routine I'd say. He's a bit of a rotund chap, quite taken to a few extra kilos given the holiday season.
Woman: Perhaps tomorrow then, will your wife be in tomorrow?
Man: Certainly not I should say. You see I plan on having the old girl put down as it might be.
Woman: My word, that is simply dreadful. I dare say you're a dispicable sort of man!
Man: Well now you sound a bit like me mother!
Woman: Your mother? Is she about...?

It was funny in an I don't get it sort of way. Is that what is referred to as dry humor?

Pretty much, yeah...

No. Dry humor is like...

"Hey, thank your grandma for those cookies she baked me. How is she by the way?"
"She died yesterday."

Unless she really was dead, then it would just be a statement. Oh right... Yeah, I suppose it (my last post) is partly dry humor.

I've lived in many, many parts of Britain, and have never heard anyone use 'kilos' in that context (it's rarely used anyway). It would be pounds, or should you have enough pounds, stones.

I dunno... I thought they used the metric system. I actually tossed that one around for a while and just kind of went with it. Substitute what ever word makes you feel better... It is an American take on the subject, perhaps it gains a certain aspect being slightly flawed in that regard.

It was certainly passable. Most such attempts by americans end up with all characters veering from cockney to costume drama when talking.

Us Britonians are able to think in both metric and imperial. We're bisystemical. I'm not sure about how the law stands just now, but... well, as an example, a Britisher would buy a pint of milk. It's just the milk carton would be labelled as 585ml (or whatever it is) as well as 1pt. All road distances and speeds are in miles. I think kilos are in more common usage nowadays, but the natural way still seems to incline to imperial.

Yeah, it wasn't really ment to be a farce or an exageration of stereotypes. More of a stylistic impression.

Sounds exactly like the US! Our beverages, etc. are listed both ways as well. We all know a kilogram is 2.2 pounds (unless you're a fat slob who's never been to the gym). A kilometer is about 6/10 of a mile (given the ratio of them both listed on a speedometer). A liter and a quart are about the same (a liter being slightly bigger... or is it a quart...) etc.

Seems to be the done thing these days to have your own personal thread which stretches out into the dull eternity of cyberspace. So I thought, being no innovator and thus unable to come up with any kind of original idea of my own, that I'd start one for myself. And this, friends, chums, citizens, corpse fiddlers, neon buggery enthusiasts, midnight fellation fiends, arse gobblers, and maladjusted miscreants, is it. You're welcome.

Is it a new low? I don't think so...

Fuck, Kevin Booth must be spinning in his grave right now..
